Alan and Fred after finishing their meal returned to their apartment. It was on the third floor of an old apartment building about a block away from the strip mall where the carnival was located for the weekend.
Fred went to right to the computer in the living room to check the business email for more orders. Business has been slower than usual and he was hoping more orders had come in.
Alan when to his room to finish a sci novel he started a few days ago.
Shortly after Alan started to read Fred called for Alan to come and see something on the computer.
“What is it?” Asked Alan as he entered the living room. He was hoping that it was not another bunch of photos of cute kittens.
“Take a look at this.” Fred pointed to the computer screen “I up loaded the pictures I took of the alien creature. He's not green. He looks white.”
“There was a plastic sheet over the crate. It must of effected the picture.”
“Maybe. It's a strange shade of white. It's almost as if it is glowing.”

Alan went back to his room to finish his novel.
He read the novel as he laid on his bed. He found himself feeling sleepy as he read and decided to rest his eyes for a few minutes.
He fell asleep within a few minutes.

Alan find himself in a dream. He knew he was in a dream. Otherwise he would not be in a desert he thought. He hated the desert.
He looked around himself in the desert dreamland. There was nothing but sand for as far as he could see.
Then he spotted a figure in black walking toward him. Behind that figure was another one and another one after that one.
There was a whole line of people walking toward him.
The figure in black came near him. It was Don Kaligari dressed in a black suit and a top hat.
Behind Kaligari was the alien creature from his sideshow truck standing on it's own feet walking behind him and behind the creature was another creature and behind that one was another.
Kaligari walked pass Alan without saying a word. So did the long line of alien creatures that fallowed Kaligari. There must have been hundreds of them walking along with him.
Alan looked up at the sun. It was not yellow. It was a strange shade of glowing white In the blue sky.
Alan awoke. It was dark outside his window.
     He heard sounds.
He realized the sounds were coming from the kitchen. Fred was making spaghetti and meatballs for dinner as he did every Saturday night.

After they ordered a Super Nachos with extra cheese they sat down at a table and waited for their order.
“I got an idea Fred. Let's build an alien looking monster like that and when the fair comes back to town we'll rent a tent and change people to see it.”
“That would be dishonest charging people to see a fake space alien.”
“Oh and that thing we just saw was the real thing?”
“I almost believe that Kaligari really believes his own story. Maybe he told it so many times he really thinks he found an alien.”
"That reminds me of my cousin Dave. He went to one of those UFO conventions in New Mexico.”
“Dave believes in UFOs and space aliens?”
“No he likes to go to things like that and goof on the true believers. He and his friend Ted wore tin foil hats to all the panels.”
            “Why did he do that?”
They were waiting for someone to ask them why and they were going to tell them it was to keep the aliens from reading their minds.”
“So people believed them when they said that?”
“No one asked them about the hats.”

When the man finished his story Alan thought the man must be one of the greatest actors he met or a total loony.
Fred thought the man was a loony. He was wondering if the thing in the crate was made of rubber of some sort or some animal cut up and sewn together by a butcher with the soul of a demented artist.
“What about the wreck?” Asked Alan.
“I was never able to return to it. The snow storm changed the landscape and I was unable to retrace my way to the wreck.”
“Too bad there must have been some interesting things in that wreck.”
“I'm sure there would have been.”
“Do you mind if I take a picture?” Asked Fred as he pulled out his camera phone.
          “Go right ahead.”
As Fred framed his shot of the thing he wished there was more light in the back of the truck.
Fred took three pictures of the thing in the crate.
He then looked to the bearded man and thought he would make a good photo subject.
“Can I have a picture of you standing by the crate?”
“Sure thing.” Said the man as he tucked in his shirt. He stood next to the crate straight and tall as if he was never proud of what he had there.
“Do you mind if I post these pictures on my website? I'll give your exhibit a plug.”
“Go ahead and print the photos. I'm moving on with the carnival on Monday morning so I don't really think a plug will bring me more business.”
“How should I credit you in the picture? What's your name?”
             “Don Kaligari.”
Fred almost laughed when he said that. He remembered the old silent movie THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI. It was about a sideshow featuring a sleepwalking and a mad Dr. Caligari who controlled it.
He assumed the man was giving him a fake name.
“Come on Fred.” Said Alan. “Let get to the taco shop. I'm ready for some nachos.”
As Alan and Fred walked away the bearded man called out to them:
“Thanks for dropping by guys. Tell your friends to come and see me and my friend.”

“Well that was worth two dollars.” Stated Fred as they walked away from the truck. “Three dollars and I would have felt cheated.”
“Hey that was totally worth the money. I wish I knew how he made up that thing. I can't tell if it's rubber or some animal that has been sewn together.”
“Yes I was wondering the same thing.”

A little over ten years ago I last my job over drinking and my wife threw me out of my house.
I got into my pick up truck and I've been on the road ever since driving from town to town and back and force across the country.
It was about a year ago I was driving across the mountains in California when it started to snow. Not long after the snow started to fall saw what I thought was a small plane crashing a little ways from the road.
It was a wooded area and I could not drive into it so I walked over to where I saw the craft fell and I came across a wreck. One look and I could tell it was no airplane.
I saw this alien man there. He seem to have been throw from the wreckage. I dragged him to the truck and as I say it was beginning to snow so I threw some snow on top of him to keep him fresh and I drove away with him. I was not sure what to do with him but I knew I had something important loaded in the back of my truck.
I was going to go to the next town but the snow fall became a snow storm and I was force to park along the side of the road. My truck was buried under the snow for a day and a half.
It was lucky for me that I lived in that truck so I had food and blankets to keep me from freezing.
After the snow plows cleared the road I dug my truck out from the snow and found that the alien was frozen under the snow in the back of the truck.
When I finally got to town I called the police and told them what I had. They told me that unless the alien committed a crime they were not interested in seeing him. They suggested I should call the Air Force.
I give the Air Force a called and I was told there was no such thing as people from space and the Air Force had no interest in coming out and checking out the creature I found.
I made a few other calls but everyone treated me like I was crazy.
Well I knew I had something important so I drove to a larger town and traded in my truck and some money toward this truck to keep the creature cold and I have been driving it around to the carnivals and fairs and showed him to people.
I figured if the government didn't want him at least I can show him to people and let them know that there really are things like this from outer space.

When Alan and Fred finished college their plan was to open an office and be rich within a year.
It was a year and a half later and their office was an old desk in the living room of the cheap rundown apartment they shared.
Business was good enough to pay the rent but they often did not have any money left over for anything else.
It was Alan's idea to go to check out the carnival. Fred wanted to watch TV but Alan told him that he needed to get out once in a while. Fred's skin was becoming an unnatural shade of pale white Alan told him.
Fred was unimpressed with the shoddy little carnival.
“Look at those junky rides.” He said to Alan. “What parent would place their kid in a death trap like that.”
“I'm sure it's safe.” Stated Alan. Alan enjoyed going to see tacky places and things. He enjoyed the carnival just like he enjoyed going to the thrift store.
“I was hoping to find some deep fried junk food to snack on at least.”
“We'll get some nachos later. Hey look.”
Alan pointed to the truck behind the game booths.
“Well I guess the day won't be a complete waste. We can see a space alien.” Said Fred in a tone that suggested that he did not really believe that he was going to see a real space creature.
“I wonder if it'll be some sort of a freak animal in a big jar of alcohol.”
“Wow. Just the sort of thing I want to see just before I eat lunch.”
“Come on Fred let's check it out. This could be some fun.”
“You said the same thing the time we went to that strip joint on Fat Girl Night.”
“Well I had fun that night.”

As the walked up to the truck the bearded man at the door spotted them.
“Hi guys. You want to see an alien from space? One a dollar a piece.”
“That sounds like a bargain.” Remarked Fred as they walked up the wooden stairs. “I got this Al. I'll sticking you with the nachos.”
“Sure thing.” Said Alan who was hoping that the Mexican taco joint would take a credit card.
Fred handed the man two dollars and they walked into the back of the truck.
It was cold in there and the lights were not too bright.
In the middle of the truck space was a large white painted crate eight foot long and 4 foot wide. A sheet of clear plastic covered the top of the crate. Thumb tacks were used to hold the plastic cover down.
They looked down into the crate.
     It was gruesome.
The thing in the crate was lying on top of a pile both crush and cube ice.
It looked was if someone had found a giant octopus somewhere and cut up and badly re build it to try and make it look like an ape of some sort.
“Isn't he something?” Stated the bearded man.
“You can say that again.” Said Alan. He was looking over the thing closely. He was sure was was some sort of animals sew together but he could not see any stitches or any sort of a gap between the joints.
would not admit it to anyone but he was spooked by the eyes of the thing in the crate. The large dead eyes stared upwards into empty space.
“Where do you get this?” Asked Alan. He regretted asking as soon as he asked. He knew sideshow people always had some sort of exotic story about the freak they had on desplay.
The bearded man seem eager to tell his story.

The Casa Vista Strip mall was a rather run down place. It was never a successful place and the shops there were always half empty.
Right now three dollar stores were operating there and a taco joint that was the most successful business that ever open there.
The rental company that managed the strip mall leased the parking lot out to a small carnival for a week.
It was a depressing cheap rundown carnival. There was a few old rides that were rusting and a couple of booths of games that no one seem to win at.
There was also a small refrigerated truck that was parked behind the game booths.
On the side of the old truck painted in bold colors was a picture of an alien monster.
In big letters over this picture: SEE THE CREATURE FROM OUTER SPACE!
The back doors of this truck were open and a plastic red curtain kept people from looking into the truck for free.
An unpainted wood ramp led up to this exhibit.
At the top of this ramp was a tall thin man with a long beard mixed with both black and gray hair. He was waiting for visitors to see his friend inside the truck.
