COMIC CON TICKETS

I have been going to the San Diego Comic Con aka Comic Con International since 1975. I have gone every year since then. Back then it was a small event. Later on it became a bigger event but was still under a hundred thousand people.
Now it's over a hundred thousand people and even non fans want to go so they can say they went to an cool event.
It was allows easy to get a ticket till the last few years. I use to buy my ticket at the door. Now it's all online and the last two years the tickets sold out in a fit of panic buying. I barely got a single day ticket last year. This year I was unable to get a ticket at the first sale and the second chance re sale. I still have one more chance at the sale of the returned refunded tickets.
Even if I can not get a ticket I want to hang around the Convention Center. I enjoy watching the crowd in their costumes and talking to people who have the same interest as me. I don't meet people like that very often. That's one of the reason people like going to the Con every year.

THE HUNGER GAMES - A quick review.

I went to see THE HUNGER GAMES (2012) Yesterday. I liked the design of the future city and the weird costume design on the upper class people of the film.
The second half of the film reminded me of the old slasher films of the 70's and 80's. The kind of films where a group of teenagers go into the woods and are killed off one by one.
The film seems to be doing well. I imagine at the next San Diego Comic Con people will be dressed like the people of THE HUNGER GAMES and all the TWILIGHT fans will whine about how they ruinned the Comic Con just as all the old Comic Con fans said of the TWILIGHT fans.
I like the Comic Con no matter who comes. Wish me luck getting tickets this year.

SON OF INGAGI (1940)

It is always sad to watch a good actor in a bad movie. It is painful to watch Zack Williams in the horror movie THE SON OF INGAGI (1940) Zack Williams gives the ape man monster of the film Karloff like pathos. This in spite of being dressed up in one of the worst monster costumes in film history. He is wearing a long black wig and dark make up.
The movie is a 'Race Film'. Race films were movies made before the 50's that featured all Black cast of actors. Black film fans would go to these movies to see black people playing non stereootype roles. Most of the Hollywood films of that era would if they had a black actor at all would feature the actor playing a demeaning stereootype.
The screenplay was by Spencer Williams. A year later Williams would write, direct and co star in the classic Race Film THE BLOOD OF JESUS (1941) Both these films can by the way be found at the archive.org.
The title is a rip off of an fake documentary called INGAGI (1930) this racist fake film claimed that women living in the jungles were mating with gorillas and giving birth to half human people. The highlight of the film was a scene shot in California of a topless native woman being carried off by a gorilla. The gorilla was played by Charles Gemora the famous gorilla suit actor.

ZOMBIES OF THE STRATOSPHERE (1952)

ZOMBIES OF THE STRATOSPHERE (1952) Was a movie serial in which a group of Martians (They call them zombies in the movie. The screen writer did not seem to know what a zombie is) plan to explode an atomic bomb in order to knock the Earth out of it's orbit so that the planet Mars could be moved into the Earth's orbit around the Sun.
Among the Martian henchmen is a young Leonard Nimoy.
There is two feature versions of this movie SATAN'S SATELLITES (1958) which use to play on local late night TV all the time.
And a colorize feature version that played on TV.

In a past post I posted a poster to the movie serial THE MONSTER AND THE APE. The poster showed a gorilla fighting a robot. I saw the last half of the serial on YOU TUBE and did not see a fight between the gorilla and the robot. It may have happen in the first half of the serial which I have not been able to find yet.
About a week ago I found an old  comic book called SMASH COMICS No 1- The cover featured a gorilla fighting a robot. Both items are from the mid 40's.
I wonder if there is any other robots vs gorillas items out there?
