Back in the early 70's when I started to read and collect comic books I would buy them from the comc book rack at the 7-ll store. They cost 20 cents each. The printing and paper was not as good as they are now and about 40 percent of the comic would be ads. The ads were okay since that help to keep the comic book price down. Artist and writers were not well paid and that also kept down the price.
Then the printing and paper got better. Artist and writers got more pay and the number of pages of ads dropped. Now comics cost a few dollars each. Now I can't buy as many comic books as I use to.
Now a days I get a lot of comic books from an online site called The Digital Comic Museum
http://www.digitalcomicmuseum.com/ this is a digital library of comic books from before the 60's. These are Public Domain comics and you won't find comics from Marvel or DC there but there is many good comic books from the era before the silver age.
You will need CDisplay software to read most of the comics once downloaded to your hard drive. It can be found free from many sites. You can also read the comic online.
Be sure and send them a PayPal donation to help support their work.
